Veteran center Michal Handzus will not be re-signed by the Chicago Blackhawks, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. Handzus was notified of the team's decision Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent.

Acquired by the Blackhawks from the San Jose Sharks on April 2, 2013, Handzus, 37, was a key contributor to Chicago's run to the Stanley Cup championship and was re-signed to a one-year contract in July 2013. But he struggled in 2013-14 with four goals and 12 assists in 59 games, and three points (two goals, one assist) with a minus-8 rating in 19 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Handzus has played for six NHL teams, including two stints with the Blackhawks. He has 483 points (185 goals, 298 assists) with a plus-14 rating in 1,009 games.
