Flyers owner Ed Snider being treated for cancer
Ed Snider, the 81-year-old founding owner and chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers, is undergoing chemotherapy to battle an unspecified form of cancer, according to a team spokesperson.

Ed Snider, the 81-year-old founding owner and chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers, is undergoing chemotherapy to battle an unspecified form of cancer, according to a team spokesperson.

The condition is non-life-threatening and Snider is doing well, Ike Richman, a spokesman for Comcast-Spectacor, the Flyers' parent company, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He is happy and healthy," Richman told the paper.

Richman said Snider's involvement with the Flyers and the company has not been affected by his condition or treatment. He said the Flyers would not have any further comment.

Snider was the majority owner of the Flyers when they started as an NHL expansion team in 1967. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.

He created the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation to provide under-served children in the Philadelphia area with the opportunity to play hockey at area ice rinks while featuring an educational component.
