Sharks' Robinson adds development job to role
Larry Robinson adds San Jose Sharks director of player development role to associate coach job

Larry Robinson was named associate coach and director of player development by the San Jose Sharks on Friday.

Earlier this week the Montreal Gazette reported Robinson had signed a three-year contract to remain with the Sharks, where he has been an associate coach for the past two seasons.

"Larry is one of the most respected minds in hockey and we are thrilled to continue having him involved with our organization," general manager Doug Wilson said.

Robinson coached the Los Angeles Kings from 1995-99 and the New Jersey Devils from 1999-2002 and in 2005-06. He led the team to a Stanley Cup in 2000 and the Stanley Cup Final in 2001.

Robinson also served several stints as an assistant coach with the Devils, as recently as the 2011-12 season when they went to the Stanley Cup Final.

Robinson, who turns 63 on June 2, is not expected to travel as much with the Sharks next season, according to the newspaper. In his expanded role he will continue to assist coach Todd McLellan as well as aid in the development of Sharks players and prospects.
