Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau was named College Player of the Year by USA Hockey on Thursday.

Gaudreau, in his third season at Boston College, led all NCAA players in goals (36), assists (44) and points (80). He helped the Eagles reach the Frozen Four and was named the winner of the Hobey Baker Award as the best player in college hockey.

After Gaudreau's team lost in the national semifinals, he signed with the Flames and had a goal in his NHL debut, April 13 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Gaudreau led the United States with 10 points in seven games at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.

Also honored by USA Hockey were Winnipeg Jets prospect Tucker Poolman and Buffalo Sabres draft pick Calvin Petersen.

Poolman, a defenseman chosen in the fifth round of the 2013 draft (No. 127) won the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year Award. In 56 games with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League this season, Poolman had 15 goals, 26 assists and a plus-20 rating, and his 41 points were third among USHL defensemen. He also had one goal and three assists in four USHL playoff games. He is committed to play at the University of North Dakota next season.

Petersen was named the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year, presented by Bauer Hockey. He was drafted by the Sabres two spots after the Jets selected Poolman.

In 38 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, Petersen went 27-7-4 with a 2.50 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and two shutouts. He tied for the league lead in wins and ranked in the top eight in GAA and save percentage as Waterloo finished with the best record in the league. In the playoffs he was 8-4 in 12 games, with a 2.37 GAA and .928 save percentage. He has signed to play with the University of Notre Dame next season.
