Capitals sign 2009 pick Mitchell to one-year contract
The Washington Capitals on Tuesday signed forward Garrett Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Washington Capitals on Tuesday signed forward Garrett Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Mitchell, 22, had two assists and 44 penalty minutes in 17 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League this season, and has 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 160 career AHL games. From 2006-11, he had 112 points (51 goals, 61 assists) in 264 games with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League while serving as captain in 2010-11.

Mitchell was the Capitals' sixth-round pick (No. 175) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
