NEW YORK, N.Y. - Boston forward Shawn Thornton was fined more than $2,800 for squirting water from the bench at Montreal defenceman P.K. Subban in the final minute of their playoff game.
Thornton's actions came in a 4-2 victory Saturday night that gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead in the second-round series. No penalty was assessed on the play.
The fine of $2,820.52 is the maximum allowed under the league's collective bargaining agreement with the union. The money goes to the players' emergency assistance fund.
