Mike Haviland named Colorado College's hockey coach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado College has hired veteran coach Mike Haviland as its new hockey coach.

Haviland has a combined two decades of experience at the NCAA, ECHL, AHL and NHL levels and most recently was head coach of the Hershey Bears in the AHL. He was an assistant for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12.

Haviland, 46, replaces Scott Owens, who resigned in April after 15 years behind the Tigers bench.

Athletic director Ken Ralph said in a statement, "We have aspirations of winning national championships and I am confident we have found the right coach to turn our vision into reality."

Quote of the Day

It was a different game in the past, that's for sure. It's not exactly what I was expecting but I think the experience paid off for a lot of our guys that realized what it takes in a Game 7. Realistically the effort we put forward, we might not even had to put 60 [minutes], but we just couldn't get a couple bounces to go our way and we just kept pushing.
