SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose general manager Doug Wilson is recommending that coach Todd McLellan return for a seventh season even after the Sharks became the fourth NHL team to lose a best-of-seven series after winning the first three games.
Wilson spoke Friday, less than 48 hours after San Jose capped another post-season collapse by losing Game 7 at home to the Los Angeles Kings 5-1. He said change was necessary but he still believed in McLellan.
The Sharks won the first three games of the series by a margin of 17-8 but managed only two goals in the final three games in their latest playoff disappointment.
San Jose has made the playoffs 10 straight seasons but has never made it past the conference finals.
Life's about opportunity and how you respond to that opportunity, and obviously he must have some swagger about him, some confidence about him, because he was solid. He made some good saves. He was 6-foot-3 on every shot, which is a good thing for a goalie. He played well. We got a win.
