Signings roundup: Predators ink Noonan, Rissling

The Nashville Predators on Tuesday signed defensemen Garrett Noonan and Jaynen Rissling each to an entry-level contract.

Noonan signed a two-year contract; Rissling signed a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Noonan, 23, was a fourth-round pick (No. 112) in the 2011 NHL Draft. He spent the past four seasons at Boston University, with 30 goals, 81 points and 271 penalty minutes in 145 games. He served as captain this season and was named the Terriers' most valuable player, tying for ninth among Hockey East defensemen with 20 points (four goals). As a sophomore, his 16 goals tied for first in the nation among defensemen.

Noonan helped the Vernon Vipers win the 2010 RBC Cup, Doyle Cup and Fred Page Cup in his lone junior season.

Rissling, 20, was a seventh-round pick (No. 197) of the Washington Capitals in 2012 whom the Predators acquired for a 2014 seventh-round pick. He has played five seasons for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. This season he served as captain, scoring eight goals and 37 points with 105 penalty minutes in 54 games.

In 273 WHL games from 2009-14, the 6-4, 204-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, had 23 goals, 117 points and 465 penalty minutes, helping the Hitmen win the WHL title and participate in the Memorial Cup in 2010.

In other signings Tuesday:

* The New Jersey Devils signed center Graham Black to a three-year entry-level contract.

Black, 21, was a fifth-round pick (No. 135) in 2012. This season he scored 34 goals and 97 points in 69 games for Swift Current of the WHL.

Black played two games for the Devils' American Hockey League affiliate in Albany after signing an amateur tryout contract.

"He came to camp and he did well, and then he went back to junior and had a very good year," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told The (Bergen) Record. "Then, he went to Albany and did everything he was asked there. He's certainly a good prospect."
