Perlini scores 2, Canadian U18 team remains undefeated with win over Slovakia

IMATRA, Finland - Brendan Perlini scored two goals as Canada defeated Slovakia 2-1 Sunday at the 2014 U18 men's hockey championship.

Canada improved to 3-0 with the win and will have a chance to sweep its Group A preliminary-round games when it plays Russia on Tuesday.

Slovakia took an early lead against the defending champions when Juraj Mily scored a short-handed goal at 12:24 of the first period.

Perlini, who plays for Niagara in the Ontario Hockey League, scored on a power play with seven seconds left in the second period to tie the game.

Perlini's second goal at 13:23 of the third gave Canada its first lead, and it stood up.

Mason MacDonald made 21 saves to help Canada preserve the win.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
