Poirier with three points as Heat finish AHL season with 4-3 win against Stars

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Emile Poirier scored once and set up two more as the Abbotsford Heat wrapped up their regular season with a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Corey Locke's goal at 9:51 of the third period broke a 3-3 deadlock for the Heat (43-25-8) while Markus Granlund added a pair of goals in the first period.

Taylor Vause, Curtis McKenzie and Matej Stransky scored for the Stars (48-18-10) to erase an early 3-0 deficit before falling short in their comeback.

Abbotsford's Joni Ortio made 37 saves for the win as Texas netminder Jack Campbell stopped 22-of-26 shots in a losing cause.

The Heat went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Stars scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

Abbotsford finishes the season as the fifth seed in the Western Conference and will face the fourth-seeded Grand Rapids Griffins in Round 1 of the AHL playoffs. Texas enters the post-season as the top team in the West and will play the Oklahoma City Barons.
