NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils right wing Jaromir Jagr had two assists in a 3-2 victory against the Boston Bruins at Prudential Center on Sunday to pass Gordie Howe for eighth place on the NHL's all-time list for career assists.

Jagr assisted on Travis Zajac's go-ahead goal at 3:52 and Marek Zidlicky's power-play goal at 6:13 in the third period for the Devils.

"Passing Gordie Howe; that's a big honor," Jagr said. "He's Mr. Hockey and he played the same position like me, right wing. So that's pretty good."

The two points by Jagr enabled him to also tie Steve Yzerman for sixth on the all-time list at 1,755.

"Steve Yzerman is an icon of Detroit and I was watching him and he was one of my idols," Jagr said. "I like the way he played. He was a true gentleman on and off the ice and one of best players to ever play hockey."

Jagr, 42, has 705 goals and 1,050 assists in his NHL career that spans 20 seasons. He trails Mike Gartner (708 goals) by three for sixth on that all-time list.

Jagr finished the season with 24 goals and 67 points in 82 games for the Devils.

"You have a front row seat to history," New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer said. "You look at 1,700-plus points and that's an incredible number and he's still going strong. What he did this year at his age; 82 games, the Olympics, it's incredible. I won't doubt him again having been around him every day."
