Green won't travel on Capitals' road trip
Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green will not travel with the team on its upcoming two-game road trip due to an upper-body injury sustained Saturday against the New York Islanders, coach Adam Oates told reporters Monday.

Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green will not travel with the team on its upcoming two-game road trip due to an upper-body injury sustained Saturday against the New York Islanders, coach Adam Oates told reporters Monday.

Green, who has nine goals and 38 points in 70 games this season, didn't play in the final two periods Saturday.

The Capitals play at the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. They are four points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Eastern Conference's second wild-card berth for the Stanley Cup Playoffs with four games remaining.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
