Paetsch scores winner in 10th round of shootout as Griffins edge Bulldogs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Nathan Paetsch scored the winner in the 10th round of the shootout as the Grand Rapids Griffins edged the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs 2-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Andrej Nestrasil opened the scoring for the Griffins (45-21-6) just 3:03 into the first period.

Grand Rapids carried a one-goal lead all the way until the 3:52 mark of the third period when Maxime Macenauer responded for Hamilton with a power-play goal.

The Griffins had a great opportunity to regain the lead late in the third when Bulldogs (31-33-7) defenceman Drew Schiestel took a double minor for high sticking.

Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski, however, shut the door and earned his team a single point and second star of the game by stopping 36-of-37 shots.

Grand Rapids netminder Tom McCollum made 22 saves for the victory.

The Griffins went 0 for 5 on the power play while the Bulldogs went 1 for 3.

Quote of the Day

After being through it and seeing the other [outdoor] games on TV, just the atmosphere is spectacular. To stand here -- and we are essentially almost on the blue line -- and look up [into the stands] and knowing it is going to be packed and playing our biggest rival in this setting is going to be pretty special.
