Elias, Henrique injured; Devils finish with 8 forwards
New Jersey Devils forwards Patrik Elias and Adam Henrique left the game on Friday against the Washington Capitals.

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils forwards Patrik Elias and Adam Henrique left the game Friday against the Washington Capitals.

Elias exited with 8:13 remaining in the first period. He was hit hard in the neutral zone by 6-foot-4, 210-pound rookie forward Tom Wilson and remained on the ice for a few minutes before finally being helped to the dressing room.

Henrique took his final shift with 4:17 remaining in the second period.

Elias has 17 goals and 51 points in 61 games. He had six goals and 18 points in the past 17 games.

Henrique has 25 goals and 43 points in 76 games.

The Devils, with seven defenseman in the lineup, had eight forwards available in the third period when Jacob Josefson also left the game after playing two shifts.

Forward Ryan Carter scored with 4:54 remaining to give the Devils a 2-1 victory.

"In the third there was just a lot of heavy breathing and listening because we're playing different positions," Carter said. "We had three centers go down, so guys were playing positions that were a little foreign to them. There was a high level of focus on the bench."

Coach Peter DeBoer did not provide the status of the injured players afterward.
