SAN JOSE -- Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty left midway through the first period of the game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night with an upper-body injury and did not return.
Doughty appeared to hurt his left shoulder while delivering a check to Sharks forward Tyler Kennedy. He played 5:21 in five shifts but did not see the ice after 8:42 of the period. The Kings announced midway through the second period that Doughty would not return.
"He didn't feel good enough to come back," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said after the 2-1 loss.
Sutter had no update on Doughty's condition after the game, but the Kings said the defenseman will travel with the club for its game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
