Bowey signs entry-level contract with Capitals
The Washington Capitals on Wednesday signed defenseman Madison Bowey to an entry-level contract

Defenseman Madison Bowey signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. The contract begins with the 2014-15 season.

Bowey, 18, was chosen by the Capitals in the second round (No. 53) of the 2013 NHL Draft and spent the past three seasons with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. Bowey had 21 goals and 60 points in 72 games this season while serving as captain. He has three points in five WHL playoff games.

The Winnipeg native won gold for Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, with four points and leading all skaters in average ice-time (21:03).

Quote of the Day

It's pretty crazy, but believe me when I say we didn't draft these players with the mindset we had to because they had good hockey-playing dads. It just turned out that way. But we're certainly glad they're a part of our organization.

— Arizona Coyotes director of amateur scouting Tim Bernhardt regarding the coincidence that six of the organization's top prospects are sons of former NHL players
