Forwards Nic Dowd and Michael Mersch on Tuesday each signed an entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings.
Dowd, who was playing at St. Cloud State, signed a one-year contract. Mersch, who was at the University of Wisconsin, signed a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Dowd, 23, had 22 goals, 40 points and 32 penalty minutes in 38 games this season, helping the Huskies advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. A seventh-round pick (No. 198) in the 2009 NHL Draft, he led the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with 10 power-play goals, was second in goals and ninth in points.
Mersch, 21, had 22 goals, 35 points and 18 penalty minutes in 37 games, helping the Badgers claim an NCAA tournament berth. Among Big-10 leaders, Mersch was tied for first in goals, tied for fifth in points and first in power-play goals (10). A fourth-round pick (No. 110) in 2011, he had a career-high 36 points in 2012-13.
