Sam Carrick scores winner as Marlies hand Americans ninth loss in a row

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sam Carrick's goal at 14:22 of the third period stood up as the winner as the Toronto Marlies doubled up the host Rochester Americans 4-2 on Friday in American Hockey Legaue action.

Carter Ashton and Brad Staubitz also scored for the Marlies (40-20-5), who now have a 15-point lead over second-place Rochester for top spot in the Noth Division standings, while Trevor Smith secured the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation.

Joel Armia and Brayden Irwin supplied the scoring for the Americans (30-27-10), who have dropped nine games straight.

Toronto's Drew MacIntyre made 22 saves for the win as Rochester's Andrey Makorov stopped 27-of-30 shots in a losing cause.
