The Chicago Blackhawks announced Monday that they have agreed to terms with free-agent defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on a two-year contract, which begins at the start of next season.
Van Riemsdyk, 22, had 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) in 26 games this season at the University of New Hampshire. He ranked fifth on the team in points and sixth in assists.
The younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk, the Middletown, N.J., native had 75 points (16 goals, 59 assists) in 102 games over three seasons with the Wildcats from 2011-14. He was named a NCAA First-Team All-American and Hockey East First-Team All-Star last season and to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2011-12.
