Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley had surgery to correct the heart condition that led him to collapse on the bench during a March 10 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stars general manager Jim Nill released the following statement Wednesday:

"Rich Peverley underwent successful surgery to correct an abnormal heart rhythm at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, March 18. He is currently in normal sinus rhythm. He was released from the Cleveland Clinic today and is expected to return to Dallas tomorrow. He will be monitored closely and may require further treatment. There is no decision being made at this time on his ability to return to hockey participation."

Peverley will not play again this season. His heart issue, atrial fibrillation, is a form of cardiac arrhythmia. His procedure is aimed at regulating his heart rate and recovery will take at least a few months.

The game against the Blue Jackets, which Columbus led 1-0, was postponed and rescheduled for April 9.

Quote of the Day

Obviously a lot happened in a short period of time. At the end of the day, considering everything I went through, I really felt close to my teammates and I really feel like what we accomplished, I know we didn't win it all. ... I'm really proud of how we got there and what we did once we got there.
