Red Wings' Ericsson has surgery on broken finger
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will undergo surgery Wednesday to have pins inserted in a broken left middle finger sustained during the second period of Detroit's 3-2 win Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson underwent successful surgery on his fractured left middle finger Wednesday and is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks. He injured the finger during the second period of Detroit's 3-2 win Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The finger is Ericsson's third injury this season. He missed 10 games with a separated shoulder and 10 with broken ribs.

In the past two weeks, the Red Wings have lost goaltender Jonas Gustavsson (groin), and forwards Joakim Andersson (ankle), Tomas Jurco (rib), Todd Bertuzzi (lower body) and Justin Abdelkader (leg laceration). Bertuzzi returned to action Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.

Those injuries are in addition to the long-term absences of Henrik Zetterberg (back), Pavel Datsyuk (knee), Darren Helm (concussion), Stephen Weiss (hernia), Daniel Cleary (knee) and Mikael Samuelsson (shoulder).

In 48 games, Ericsson has one goal, 11 points and a plus-2 rating. With Ericsson out, the Red Wings called up Adam Alquist from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
