ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Spencer Abbott scored twice, including a power-play goal 45 seconds into overtime, as the Toronto Marlies edged the Rochester Americans 2-1 on Friday in American Hockey League action.

Abbott scored his 15th of the season just 37 seconds into the game, and Trevor Smith had assists on both Toronto (35-19-5) goals.

Rasmus Ristolainen replied for the Americans (30-20-10), scoring on a power play at 6:13 of the first period.

Marlies goaltender Christopher Gibson made 23 saves, while Rochester's Nathan Lieuwen stopped 38 shots in the losing effort.

Toronto, which outshot the Americans 40-24, was 1 for 6 on the power play. Rochester scored once in seven chances with the man advantage.

The Americans travel to Binghamton to play the Senators on Saturday. The Marlies have an off day before hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs Sunday.

Quote of the Day

Your team is going to want to recapture the feeling. What they're going to have to figure out is they're going to have to rewrite the story. Because you're going to rewrite the story doesn't mean you want a different end. It's just that you're going to have to learn that there's different challenges to get there, and if you're going to try and tap the same feeling, it ain't going to happen.
