Kesler sidelined after knee-on-knee hit
Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler left the game against the Winnipeg Jets and did not return after a knee-on-knee collision with Jim Slater.

Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler left the game against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday after a knee-on-knee collision late in the second period. He did not return, and the Canucks said he will return to Vancouver and miss the remainder of the team's four-game road trip.

Kesler, the Canucks' leader with 22 goals, was reaching for a loose puck and had his head down when Winnipeg center Jim Slater skated by and caught him with his right knee. Kesler appeared to be in pain as he skated cautiously off the ice and hobbled to the dressing room.

Slater was given a tripping penalty on the play.

TSN reported that Kesler was wearing a brace on his right knee after the Canucks' 3-2 shootout victory.

The Canucks said Kesler will return to Vancouver to be evaluated further. Vancouver continues its road against the Washington Capitals on Friday night, followed by games against the Florida Panthers on Sunday and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday.
