The New York Rangers on Wednesday signed free-agent forward Ryan Haggerty. Terms of the contract were not released.

The New York Rangers on Wednesday signed free-agent forward Ryan Haggerty. Terms of the contract were not released. According to The Record, Haggerty will join the Rangers when they return this weekend from a road trip.

Haggerty, 21, had 28 goals and 15 assists in 35 games with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He set career highs in goals, assists and points this season, his third with RPI.

"We have watched Ryan closely the past few years, and the two things that stick out the most are he can score and he has gotten better every year," Rangers assistant general manager Jeff Gorton said. "We really like Ryan's work ethic and his drive to get better every day."

Prior to playing for RPI, the 6-foot, 200-pound native of Stamford, Conn., spent two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program and played for the United States at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he had two goals in six games to help the U.S. win the gold medal.
