Ottawa Senators forward Clarke MacArthur will sit out their game Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets with a hand injury and is doubtful for Monday against the Nashville Predators, coach Paul MacLean said after practice Friday.

"It might be longer, who knows?" MacLean said. "We just want to make sure we had our people look at it and make sure what it would be."

MacArthur left Ottawa's 4-1 road loss Wednesday against the Calgary Flames early in the third period after engaging with defenseman Chris Butler. The encounter, which came 19 seconds into the period with Ottawa trailing 3-0, began after MacArthur knocked Flames leading scorer Jiri Hudler into the boards. Hudler lay on the ice after the hit and is out at least two games with an upper-body injury.

MacArthur ranks third on the Senators with 19 goals and is tied for fourth with 44 points in 62 games.

"That's a big loss," MacLean said. "But it's also, as we've said lots of times in the past, it's a good opportunity too. Somebody else gets to step up and play in that spot."

Quote of the Day

There was a lot of talk off the ice. From a player's standpoint, that's not the talk in the room. GMs make decisions, coaches make decisions, but as a team you have to come together and be ready to go, and we are.
