Daily Primer March 5: Different look for Caps, Flyers

It's usually an intense showdown when the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals get together, and it shouldn't be any different when the teams face off at Wells Fargo Center (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN2).

But each team will have a bit of a different look after tweaking its rosters prior to the NHL Trade Deadline, which is set for 3 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Philadelphia enters the game in second place in the Metropolitan Division, but one point ahead of the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets and two ahead of the Capitals.

Here's a closer look at all the action Wednesday:

Toronto Maple Leafs at New York Rangers -- The Maple Leafs head to Madison Square Garden with hopes of ending a three-game skid (0-1-2). Toronto is 4-17-2 when leading scorer Phil Kessel is held without a point. New York is also looking to get back on the winning track after losses to the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins last weekend. The Rangers will play seven of nine on the road following this game.

Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers -- Left wing Dustin Penner could make his debut for Washington after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. Penner, 31, has 13 goals and 19 assists in 49 games this season. Washington also landed forward Chris Brown, defenseman Rostislav Klesla and a fourth-round pick at the 2015 NHL Draft in exchange for forwards Martin Erat and John Mitchell. Philadelphia acquired defenseman Andrew MacDonald from the New York Islanders for a third-round pick this year and a second-round selection in 2015. MacDonald led the Isles with 25:25 of ice time per game.

Ottawa Senators at Calgary Flames -- It's the third of a four-game road trip for the Senators, who couldn't make it two in a row with a 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Erik Karlsson got Ottawa within one late in the third, but the Senators couldn't find the equalizer. Calgary returns home after splitting two road games. The Flames could be without forward Mike Cammalleri, who has been the subject of trade rumors.

Montreal Canadiens at Anaheim Ducks -- Montreal's four-game trip to the West Coast got off to a tough start with a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Canadiens goalie Carey Price (lower body) is on injured reserve, but can be activated as soon as he's deemed ready to return. Ducks general manager Bob Murray was busy Tuesday; Anaheim acquired injured defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars while trading away goalie Viktor Fasth (Edmonton Oilers) and forward Dustin Penner (Washington Capitals). Robidas, who broke his leg on Nov. 29, is expected to be ready before the Stanley Cup Playoffs start.
