Wild add veteran goalie Bryzgalov from Oilers
The Minnesota Wild have acquired goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov from the Edmonton Oilers for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Minnesota Wild on Tuesday acquired goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov from the Edmonton Oilers in a trade for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

"Bryzgalov is a quality veteran that adds depth to the goaltending position for our team," Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher said in a statement.

Bryzgalov began the season without a contract but joined the Oilers and is 5-8-5 in 20 games with a .908 save percentage and a 3.01 goals-against average. His nine-year, $51 million contract was bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers two seasons after the 2012-13 season ended.

Minnesota reportedly was interested in adding a veteran goalie to pair with rookie Darcy Kuemper, who has the No. 1 role with starter Josh Harding out of action. Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils and Jaroslav Halak of the Buffalo Sabres had been linked to the Wild in recent days.

Harding was one of the best stories of the first half of the 2013-14 season, producing Vezina Trophy-caliber numbers, but he hasn't played since Dec. 31. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012. Former starter Niklas Backstrom is shut down for the foreseeable future, most likely the rest of the season, with an abdominal injury

The fourth-round pick originally belonged to the Buffalo Sabres before the Wild acquired it in a trade that included Jason Pominville last season.
