Canadiens acquire Weaver from Panthers
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenseman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers for a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday acquired defenseman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers in a trade for a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Weaver has no goals and six points in 55 games this season. He has averaged 18:47 of ice time per game, which is fourth on the Panthers.

Listed at 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds, Weaver has the third-highest Corsi for percentage this season (50.9 percent) among Panthers defensemen despite facing the toughest competition of the group, according to ExtraSkater.com. He will turn 36 years old in May.

Quote of the Day

Unless he really collapses, I don't see him going anywhere. I've been very impressed with his composure and maturity. Once the regular season started, he was a different guy; it was like game on and almost as if he's been around for a long time.

— Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon on rookie defenseman Aaron Ekblad
