Canadiens acquire defenceman Mike Weaver from Panthers for fifth-round pick

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenceman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The five-foot-10, 183-pound blue-liner has six assists in 55 games this season.

Weaver, a 35-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., has 86 points (seven goals, 79 assists) and 213 penalty minutes in 585 career NHL games with the Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues.
