VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks didn't have an update on the status of forward Daniel Sedin after he left the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sunday with an apparent leg injury.
Sedin will be re-evaluated Monday after being hit into the boards by Ottawa Senators' defenseman Marc Methot at 14:20 of the second period. Sedin's legs splayed apart awkwardly as he went down behind the Ottawa net, and he clutched his left leg as he lay on the ice. He skated to the bench slowly under his own power, but went to the locker room moments later with assistance from team officials.
"He was done," coach John Tortorella said after the Canucks lost to the Senators 4-2.
For how long is the question, but Tortorella didn't have an answer during the postgame press conference, saying he hadn't talked to head athletic trainer Mike Burnstein.
In 62 games, Sedin is tied for the team lead in scoring with 40 points and has 13 goals, third on the team. For a team that finally got healthy over the break for the 2014 Sochi Olympics after a run of injuries to key players, it wasn't easy to see Sedin go down.
"It's been one of those years," said twin brother Henrik Sedin, whose nearly 10-year ironman streak was ended by a rib injury in January.
Alexandre Burrows, who plays on the top line with the Sedin twins, hasn't scored in 31 games this season after missing time with a broken jaw and foot.
"Bad luck is going to happen and you have to find a way to overcome those injuries and win some games," Burrows said.
