Holden scores 2 goals, Varlamov stops 31 shots as Avalanche beat Lightning 6-3

DENVER - Nick Holden scored two goals, Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and an assist and the Colorado Avalanche rallied to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 on Sunday night.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 31 shots and Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie also scored for the Avalanche, who have won two straight.

Johnson scored the go-ahead goal at 16:05 of the third when he pinched in to steal the puck and then sent a shot past Ben Bishop from along the boards.

Nate Thompson had two goals, Tom Pyatt also scored and Bishop finished with 29 saves for the Lightning.

Holden tied it with a power-play goal at 5:12 of the third. It was Colorado's sixth power-play goal in the past three games.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
