Crosby, Toews bring their best against Sweden, deliver gold for Team Canada

SOCHI, Russia - Team Canada is the Olympic hockey champion once again.

Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz scored their first goals of the tournament as Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 in the gold medal game at the Sochi Olympics.

Goaltender Carey Price earned his second straight shutout.

Kunitz essentially ended the game when he stole the puck form Daniel Sedin, cut into the Swedish zone and fired the puck past Henrik Lundqvist at 9:04 of the third period.

Crosby scored on a breakaway in the second, while Toews tipped a Jeff Carter pass between Lundqvist's legs in the first.

Team Canada has now won gold for two straight Winter Games after taking the 2010 title in Vancouver with a 3-2 overtime win over the United States.

The gold is Canada's first Olympic medal on the larger international ice surface.

Quote of the Day

I watched many times this year the series between the Russians and Canada in 1972, and he was a dominating player there. After I watched the tapes, I respect him a lot more because he turned the series around. He was the guy. In that time, he was the best in the world. It’s a big honor for me to tie him.
