Sweden women upset Finland, face U.S. in semis
Sweden earned a berth in the women's hockey semifinals at the 2014 Sochi Olympics by upsetting Finland 4-2 in a quarterfinal game Saturday.

Emma Eliasson's power-play goal with 4:15 remaining in regulation broke a 2-2 tie and earned Sweden a berth against the United States on Monday. The Americans beat the Swedes 9-1 in the semifinals at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Emma Nordin hit the empty net with 40.2 seconds remaining, capping a four-goal third period by Sweden. Valentina Wallner made 29 saves.

Switzerland shut out Russia 2-0 in the second quarterfinal and plays Canada on Monday.

Despite 28 saves by Noora Raty, Finland failed to reach the medal round for the first time in the five Olympics in which women's hockey has been played. It will play Germany in a qualification-round game.

The Finns took a 1-0 lead into the third period on a goal by Venla Hovi at 13:16 of the second. But Anna Borgqvist's power-play goal 48 seconds after the opening faceoff tied the game, and Lina Wester put Sweden ahead for the first time by scoring at 5:09.

The lead lasted all of 12 seconds before Emma Nuutinen made it 2-2.

But Finland's Emma Terho took an interference penalty with 4:23 to play, and after Sweden won the draw, Eliasson teed up a straightaway 45-foot slap shot that sailed through a screen and past Raty.
