OHL Roundup: McDavid scores twice, including winner, as Otters edge IceDogs 3-2

ERIE, Pa. - Connor McDavid scored twice, including the winner, and added an assist as the Erie Otters edged the visiting Niagara IceDogs 3-2 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

McDavid broke a 2-2 deadlock at 3:13 of the third period for the Otters (43-10-2), who extended their win streak to four games, while Nick Betz had the other goal for Erie.

Otters captain Connor Brown picked up an assist, extending his point streak to 10 games and giving him a league-high 110 points in 55 contests.

Matt Gillard and Anthony DiFruscia scored for the IceDogs (18-30-7), who are on a three-game skid.

Erie's Oscar Dansk only had to make 12 saves for the win as Brent Moran turned away 27-of-30 shots for Niagara.

Otters forward Joel Wigle was ejected at 17:18 of the second period after receiving a major for checking-to-the-head.

BULLS 3 ATTACK 1

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Charlie Graham stopped 28 shots as the Bulls downed Owen Sound.

Alex Yuill, Cameron Brace and Chad Heffernan scored for Belleville (17-33-5), which improved to 10-15-2 on home ice.

The Attack (24-24-7) got their lone goal from Kyle Hope.

Owen Sound goaltender Brandon Hope turned aside 24-of-27 shots in a losing cause.

WHALERS 2 RANGERS 1 (OT)

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Victor Crus Rydberg scored at 3:07 of overtime to lift the Whalers over Kitchener.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves for Plymouth (21-28-6) while Gianluca Curcuruto forced extra time with a goal at 11:24 of the third period.

Dmitrii Sergeev's first-career goal gave the Rangers (20-32-3) a 1-0 lead.

Jordan DeKort turned away 40-of-42 shots for Kitchener, which had its three-game win streak snapped.

GREYHOUNDS 5 SPITFIRES 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Tyler Gaudet scored once and set up two more as the Greyhounds toppled Windsor.

Tyler Ganly, Blake Speers, Jared McCann and Darnell Nurse also scored for Sault Ste. Marie (37-15-5) while Patrick Watling tacked on three assists.

Brady Vail and Slater Koekkoek scored for the Spitfires (34-20-2).

Matt Murray made 29 saves for the Greyhounds as Windsor's Dalen Kuchmey stopped 21-of-26 shots in defeat.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Kerby Rychel and Zack Mitchell had a goal and three assists apiece as Guelph defeated the Spirit for its fifth straight victory.

Robby Fabbri had a goal and an assist for the Storm (43-9-3) and Nick Ebert, Adam Craievich and Stephen Pierog scored the others.

Mitchell Stephens had a pair of goals for Saginaw (26-25-5) while Nick Moutrey and Justin Sefton added singles.

Matthew Mancina made 36 saves for Guelph as Jake Paterson kicked out 39-of-44 shots for the Spirit.

BARRIE, Ont. — Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 33-of-34 shots as the Colts doubled up Peterborough.

Andreas Athanasiou opened the scoring for Barrie (29-23-3) while Kevin Labanc's goal 3:05 into the second period stood up as the winner.

Michael Clarke scored for the Petes (24-26-5), who are on a four-game losing streak.

Peterborough's Andrew D'Agostini turned aside 24-of-26 shots in a losing cause.
