RALEIGH, N.C. - Brent Sutter scored 1:32 into extra time as the Charlotte Checkers came from behind to defeat the visiting Abbotsford Heat 5-4 on Sunday in American Hockey League action.
Chris Terry scored twice and added an assist in regulation for the Checkers (23-24-2), who trailed 4-1 after 20 minutes of play, while Justin Shugg and Aaron Palushai had the others.
Josh Jooris, Blair Jones, Markus Granlund and Derek Smith scored for the Heat (32-15-5).
Charlotte's Mike Murphy made 28 saves for the win as Joni Ortio stopped 37-of-42 shots for Abbotsford.
After tying the game 4-4 early in the third period with his second goal of the game, Terry had a chance to put his team ahead with a penalty shot at 7:12. Ortio, however, halted the forward from completing a hat trick.
The Checkers went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Heat didn't get any chances with the man advantage.
