Avs defenceman Erik Johnson suspended 2 games for slashing Islanders forward Frans Nielsen

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Colorado Avalanche defenceman Erik Johnson has been suspended by the NHL for two games without pay on Tuesday for slashing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.

The incident occurred at 12:09 of the third period of Colorado's 5-2 win on Saturday. Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

It was Colorado's last game before the Olympic break. The Avs' next game will be Feb. 26 against Los Angeles.

Quote of the Day

Obviously there's a lot of expectations around me but it's something I try not to focus on. I'm just trying to go out there, be myself on the ice every day, try to get better, be myself around the guys in the locker room. I think that's what's made me successful and the person that I am.
