Flames sign Russell to two-year contract
The Calgary Flames announced Saturday that they have signed defenseman Kris Russell to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $2.6 million per season.

The Calgary Flames announced Saturday that they have signed defenseman Kris Russell to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $2.6 million per season.

Russell, a native of Red Deer, Alberta, has four goals and 16 assists in 44 games this season. The 26-year-old was acquired from the St. Louis Blues last summer in exchange for a fifth-round pick at the 2014 NHL Draft.

In 408 regular-season games, Russell has 27 goals and 88 assists with the Flames, Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets. Russell was originally chosen in the third round (No. 67) of the 2005 NHL Draft by Columbus.
