Islanders place Hamonic on IR, recall Donovan
The New York Islanders on Tuesday placed defenseman Travis Hamonic on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Matt Donovan from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.

The New York Islanders on Tuesday placed defenseman Travis Hamonic on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Matt Donovan from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.

Hamonic has missed the past eight games since sustaining a concussion during a game Jan. 12 against the Dallas Stars.

To fill his roster spot the Islanders recalled Donovan, who had been sent down a day earlier to clear a roster spot for defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, who returned from a three-month absence due to a concussion to play Monday against the Boston Bruins.

Donovan has six points and a minus-10 rating while averaging 17:30 of ice time per game in 32 games.

Quote of the Day

I definitely think going back down helped me, I had a lot of confidence down there, I played a lot of minutes and I think that helped me a lot. With the 37 games up here, that gave me experience as well. I know what it takes to play in the NHL and now it's time for me to show that I'm capable of being a full-time NHL player.
