Alex Nedeljkovic's 58-save performance leads Whalers to win over Spirit

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Alex Nedeljkovic's 58-save performance held the line as the Plymouth Whalers defeated the Saginaw Spirit 7-2 in the lone Ontario Hockey League game Monday.

After both teams fired 14 shots at each other in the first period, Spirit outshot the Whalers 24-12 in the second and 22-14 in the third.

But Nedeljkovic allowed just one goal in the second and another in the third for Plymouth (17-23-5).

Connor Chatham scored twice for the Whalers, with Alex Peters, Francesco Vilardi, Cullen Mercer, Matt Mistele and Connor Sills adding a goal apiece.

Cody Payne scored both goals for Saginaw (22-18-5), which needed two goals after starter Jake Paterson was pulled for giving up four goals on 14 shots.

Nikita Serebryakov stopped 23-of-26 shots in relief.
