Daily Primer Jan. 20: Kings continue trip vs. Bruins

The Boston Bruins couldn't have been happy about falling short against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, but they have little time to dwell about it.

Boston, which received two goals from Brad Marchand but suffered a 3-2 shootout loss at United Center, quickly hopped back on the plane and headed home, where they will face the Los Angeles Kings on Monday at TD Garden (3 p.m. ET, NHLN-US, NHLN-CA, NESN, FS-W).

Here's a closer look at the action Monday:

Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders -- Philadelphia goes for both a home-and-home and season-series sweep of the Islanders. The Flyers improved to 3-0 against New York this season with a 6-4 win Saturday at Wells Fargo Center behind two goals from defenseman Andrej Meszaros. The Islanders have been outscored 16-8 in the three losses.

Los Angeles Kings at Boston Bruins -- Los Angeles plays the third of a five-game road trip; the Kings split the first two games. Jeff Carter has scored in back-to-back games for Los Angeles and has a three-game point streak. Boston returns home after earning a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday. Brad Marchand scored both goals for the Bruins, giving him nine in the past 14 games. Patrice Bergeron has two goals and three assists during a three-game point streak.

Florida Panthers at Pittsburgh Penguins -- It's the first of back-to-back road games for the Panthers, who will visit the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Florida is 4-6-2 since winning five in a row last month and is 0-for-32 on the power play since Dec. 28. After playing one game in the previous eight days, the Penguins will now play five in the next eight. Pittsburgh defenseman Paul Martin (fractured tibia) has practiced the past two days and hopes to return to the lineup as soon as Monday.

St. Louis Blues at Detroit Red Wings -- The Blues begin a four-game road trip that features three games in the New York metropolitan area after the game Monday at Joe Louis Arena. St. Louis is coming off back-to-back losses against the Southern California teams, both of which took place at Scottrade Center. Detroit opened a five-game homestand by earning a 3-2 shootout victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist in the win.

Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators -- Dallas will attempt to reverse its fortunes after winning once in the past nine games. The Stars, who will open a five-game homestand after the game Monday, have scored more than two goals once in their past six. Nashville has scored 11 goals in its past three games and have earned a least a point in three of the past five. The Predators will start a four-game road trip Thursday.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Phoenix Coyotes -- After an impressive 5-3 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, the Maple Leafs begin a four-game road trip in the desert. The win Saturday was Toronto's fourth in a row. Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel has three goals and seven assists over a five-game point streak. Phoenix is seeking its first three-game winning streak since Oct. 26-Nov. 5; the Coyotes made it two in a row with a 3-2 win against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Mike Smith has a .951 save percentage over the past three games.

Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks -- Calgary continues its brief two-game road trip before opening a five-game homestand Wednesday against the Phoenix Coyotes. The Flames earned a point in their most-recent outing, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Saturday. San Jose is beginning a four-game homestand; the Sharks extended their winning streak to three games Saturday when they overcame four goals from Martin St. Louis in a 5-4 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Joe Pavelski had a natural hat trick in the win.
