Tom Gulitti of The (Bergen) Record reports Clarkson said Sunday, when his former team the New Jersey Devils was in town to face the Maple Leafs, that he would have to miss some time to get a bursa sac in his elbow removed.
Clarkson played that night and each of Toronto's following two games, but he hasn't recorded a point since Dec. 23. In his first season with the Maple Leafs after signing a seven-year, $37 million contract, he has three goals, eight points and 51 penalty minutes in 36 games.
McLaren has played in 22 games this season, just two since Dec. 16, and is scoreless with 67 penalty minutes.
