Murray to be named Buffalo GM on Thursday: report
The Buffalo Sabres are close to hiring Tim Murray to take over as their new general manager according to multiple media reports. Murray is currently the assistant general manager of the Ottawa Senators.

The Buffalo Sabres are close to hiring Tim Murray to take over as their general manager according to multiple media reports. Murray is the assistant general manager of the Ottawa Senators.

On Thursday morning, the club called a 11:30 a.m. press conference at the First Niagara Center. Murray is expected to be introduced at that press conference.

TSN and Sportsnet reported late Tuesday that Sabres president of hockey operations Pat LaFontaine's two-month search for a GM to replace Darcy Regier has ended with Murray, who is the nephew of Senators general manager Bryan Murray.

The reports from the Canadian media outlets included the news LaFontaine called the other candidates to inform them they would not be getting the job. The Buffalo News reported the Sabres would not confirm the media reports.

Murray has worked for the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers. He's been with the Senators since 2007.

LaFontaine took over as president of hockey operations Nov. 13. He hired Ted Nolan as Sabres interim coach for the remainder of the season.
