BUFFALO, N.Y. - A person familiar with the Buffalo Sabres' general manager search has told The Associated Press that Jim Benning and Tim Murray are among four finalists for the job.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity Tuesday because the Sabres have not revealed the list of candidates to succeed Darcy Regier, who was fired in November. The search is led by Pat LaFontaine, the newly hired team president.
Benning is the Boston Bruins' assistant general manager. He spent 12 seasons as a Sabres scout, including eight as the team's director of amateur scouting before leaving for Boston in 2006.
Murray is in his seventh season as the Senators' assistant general manager and is the nephew of Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray.
