NEW YORK -- Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin left the game Monday night against the New York Rangers following a hit from forward Chris Kreider.

Handling the puck 21 seconds into the second period while facing the boards at the Rangers' blue line, Tyutin fell forward awkwardly when Kreider delivered a hit that caught the Russian defenseman off guard.

Kreider was assessed a five-minute boarding major on the play as well as a game misconduct. After spending some time down on the ice, Tyutin left the game and returned briefly for a 12-second shift before leaving again. He did not return after that.

After the game, Columbus coach Todd Richards didn't appear overly concerned about the defenseman's injury. But he admitted there wasn't much information to go on.

"As far as Tyuts, I don't know exactly [his status] yet. We'll find out more tomorrow," Richards said. "My understanding is it's more of a charley horse than anything else."

In 39 games this season, Tyutin has four goals and 17 points.
