Canucks list Luongo as day-to-day with injury

ANAHEIM -- Roberto Luongo is day-to-day after he was injured Saturday night, Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella said Sunday.

Luongo did not serve as backup to Eddie Lack in a 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center and Vancouver signed Rob Laurie to a professional tryout contract to backup Lack, who made 45 saves.

Luongo was struck high by the leg of Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown in the third period Saturday when Brown crashed the net to score. Luongo stayed down for several moments after the hit, but stayed in the game.

Vancouver general manager Mike Gillis told reporters that it could be more than a day-to-day issue with Luongo. Lack said he was prepared to assume the No.1 role long-term.

"I guess we just have to wait and see what happens," said Lack, who made 45 saves Sunday. "If I'm back in the net Tuesday [against the Boston Bruins], I'm going to have to make the best of it, and if Lu is back, that's great.

"I have confidence in myself and I know we've got a tough month coming up here before the Olympic break. We've had a lot of injuries before and we'll just have to make the best of it."

Luongo was coming off a groin injury that forced him to miss the previous three games. He made 46 saves in a 3-1 loss Saturday.

"My foot got caught under me as he was accidentally running me over," Luongo told reporters after the game. "Luckily this time, the pain went away. It was a tough call. Hockey is a fast game and that's what we want to do to the opposing goalie, too – crash the net and create havoc."

Laurie, 43, is a local emergency goalie. He served as a backup for Anaheim last season. Lack said he was notified about three hours before puck drop.

"Today I felt like I was a Canuck, and I was rooting for us to win, and it was a lot of fun," Laurie said.
