Jones, Raanta named co-winners of NHL's top rookie for December award

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Goaltenders Martin Jones of the Los Angeles Kings and Antti Raanta of the Chicago Blackhawks were named co-winners of the NHL's top rookie award for December on Friday.

Jones posted an 8-2-0 record with a 1.29 goals-against average, .955 save percentage and three shutouts in 10 games.

Raanta compiled an 8-1-3 mark with a 2.23 GAA, .912 save percentage and one shutout in 12 appearances.

Also considered for the honour were Dallas right-winger Valeri Nichushkin, Winnipeg centre Mark Scheifele, Philadelphia left-winger Michael Raffl and goaltenders Eddie Lack of Vancouver and Philipp Grubauer of Washington.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
