Little did Toews know Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin had him in his sight.
The Blackhawks were leading the Kings 1-0 with 13:38 remaining in the game and looking for more when Patrick Sharp chipped the puck into the Kings' zone. Toews went after it, but the 6-foot-3, 217-pound Muzzin was there to meet him shoulder-to-shoulder and send him crashing to the ice and against the boards.
Muzzin had four hits in 15:46 of ice time of the Kings' 1-0 loss to the Blackhawks at United Center.
There's no discouragement in that room. There's no issues there at all to be honest with you. It's more about, 'Hey, it's opportunities for players.' And if we become that bad of a team because of one player, it's not a real good sign for our hockey club. So this is part of sports. It's part of hockey.
