Kings' Muzzin rattles Blackhawks' Toews with heavy hit
A playmaking threat each time he steps on the ice, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews found some room in the third period of a Dec. 30 game against the Los Angeles Kings. Little did Toews know Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin had him in his sight.

A playmaking threat each time he steps on the ice, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews found some room in the third period of a Dec. 30 game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Little did Toews know Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin had him in his sight.

The Blackhawks were leading the Kings 1-0 with 13:38 remaining in the game and looking for more when Patrick Sharp chipped the puck into the Kings' zone. Toews went after it, but the 6-foot-3, 217-pound Muzzin was there to meet him shoulder-to-shoulder and send him crashing to the ice and against the boards.

Muzzin had four hits in 15:46 of ice time of the Kings' 1-0 loss to the Blackhawks at United Center.

Quote of the Day

It's something that you don't really envision starting this way, but when you put the work in you don't feel like it's unwarranted. You definitely don't envision it unfolding this way, but you do think you can be successful at this level.

— Senators goalie Andrew Hammond, who defeated the Jets on Wednesday to improve to 6-0-1 since making his first NHL start on Feb. 18
