Blue Jackets sign Rychel to entry-level contract
The Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday signed first-round pick Kerby Rychel to a three-year, entry-level contract

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Kerby Rychel to a three-year, entry-level contract on Tuesday.

Rychel was the second of Columbus' three first-round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft, taken at No. 19.

"Kerby is a hard-nosed player who is very competitive and possesses a mixture of skill, the ability to score goals and grit," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. "We believe he will be an important part of our organization for years to come as he continues to grow and develop as a player."

Rychel, 19, has 17 goals, 28 assists and is a plus-16 with Windsor and Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League. He has one goal and five assists since joining the Storm. He currently is playing for Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The Blue Jackets also drafted Alexander Wennberg (No. 14) and Marko Dano (No. 27) in the first round in June.

Quote of the Day

Obviously a lot happened in a short period of time. At the end of the day, considering everything I went through, I really felt close to my teammates and I really feel like what we accomplished, I know we didn't win it all. ... I'm really proud of how we got there and what we did once we got there.
