Calgary Flames acquire Kevin Westgarth from Carolina for forward Greg Nemisz

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames acquired right winger Kevin Westgarth from the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday for forward Greg Nemisz.

Westgarth is in his fifth NHL season, and has yet to pick up a point this season in 12 games with the Hurricanes. Overall, he has played 133 career games with Los Angeles and Carolina, accumulating three goals and six assists for nine points and 202 penalty minutes.

Nemisz had five goals and four assists in 32 games this season with the Abbotsford Heat. He will report to the Hurricanes' AHL farm team, the Charlotte Checkers.

The Flames drafted Nemisz in the first round, 25th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his fourth professional season, and appeared in 15 career NHL regular-season games with Calgary, earning one assist.

Quote of the Day

He's a winner. We want winners here, and he's a proven winner. He's won two Stanley Cups. He's 22 years old and been a big part of it. He's got all the right tools. He's got size (6-foot-1, 204 pounds) and strength. He's exactly what we were looking for. He's going to be a big piece of our team for many, many years to come.
